Why is NPN preferred over PNP?

What is the difference between PNP and NPN configurations?

  • In a PNP configuration the load is connected between the OSSD output and GND. With an NPN configuration the load is connected between 24 VDC and the OSSD output switching element.

What is the difference between "NPN" and "PNP" sensors?

  • PNP and NPN sensors are 3 wire DC devices. The difference is in the type of transistor used in the sensor. The PNP device has 2 control power leads, one connected to positive, the other to negative. The third wire, connects to the load.

What is the difference between NPN and PNP bipolar transistor?

  • There are numerous difference between NPN and PNP transistors, even though both are bipolar junction transistors. There are applications which makes transistors as a device- switch and amplifier. In a PNP transistor, the majority charge carriers are holes while in NPN the majority charge carriers are electrons.
